Glenlossie
Exclusively provides for Diageo's blends.
About
Even for an independent, Glenlossie very rarely releases any single malt bottlings; being a full-time provider to its parent company's blends. Their character is delicate, with an oily texture that comes from using purifiers pipes, and grassiness that comes from lengthy fermentation.
History
It is one of the biggest Speyside blenders, using an abundance of still and home to 250,000 casks inside 14 warehouses. Not to mention a dark grains plant, processing draff, pot ale, and spent lees.
Glenlossie was constructed in 1876 by John Duff Alexander Allen, H.M.S. Mackay and John Hopkins. The distillery remained independent until joining DCL in 1930 as a part of Haig stable.
Speyside Region
Although, Speyside was not accepted as an official whisky region it is now generally approved as a subdivision of the Highlands Region. Over half of all Scotland's distilleries are located in here which makes it the most densely populated whisky region in the world. Many of the most popular single malts are produced in Speyside also the malts here are typically said to be the sweetest of all scotch whisky malts. Their whiskies are known for being frugal with peat and full of fruit. Pear, apple, vanilla, honey and spice all have a part a role in expressions from this region, which are commonly matured in sherry casks.
